'what you about to witness is my thoughts - right or wrong. just what i was feeling at the time.'
I was nervous about this. I really was. After one of the top 5 best moments in my life last Summer at NYC, I really didn’t want to believe there was actually beef between these two punishers. Whew.
Two years ago today, we lost one of the greats in the game.
I can safely and accurately state that Moment of Truth is one of my top 5 favorite albums of all-time - I will forever remember the day I biked to the Schoolkids to cop it on the release date, when I honestly wasn’t even that familiar with Gang Starr. This wasn’t a situation where you realize later in life it was a classic, no, very far from that.
R.I.P. Guru. I know you are wearing all white now as well.
In 6th grade, I had four posters up in my bedroom… Rocky and Apollo celebrating, Tupac’s “All Eyez On Me” cover.. Biggie’s “Life or Death” cover.. and Mase’s “Harlem World” cover.. Mase was like young, hungry Prince.
Hadn’t listened to College Dropout in a while. Ye, Kweli, and Common.. all three just went to town.
I will wait as long I need to wait for the album. One year, or three. Take your time, Jay.
How impressive is Kendrick Lamar?
And a valiant, successful effort from Dre using Kendo’s style (lines as well?). Just think if the doctor had this level of lyrical prowess in the early 90’s. No, we cannot go back in to time, but shit, I am thinking the undisputed king of hip-hop would have been quite the disputable topic.
Cam’Ron, Jaz & Vado - House of Harlem (Boss of all Bosses 2.8)
At the tail end of my Cam’Ron kick (I’m just trying to project the ending), I was really introduced to Vado - I hadn’t heard too much before diving in to somewhat mixtapes with Killa (a deep, deep sleep).
While I left the first verse wishing Cam was back on some ‘357’, Confessions of Fire-type shit over this triumphant backdrop, all was not lost. Jaz with a pretty filthy flow.
The third verse from Vado is something extra serious.
“If you make time to list all the
things you are grateful for, and
you feel the feelings of gratitude,
you will feel amazing every day.
Your frequency will be high and you
will move through your days in
love with being alive, bringing joy
wherever you go, positively
affecting one person after another.
When you live a life like this, everything you want will come
before you even ask.
”

Happy Birthday, Dilla. Today we celebrate all the wonderful music you left us with.
Cam’ron - “Killa Cam” Prod. The Heatmakerz (Purple Haze, 2004)
The reason, I’m uncertain.. but for one reason or another, this past Fall I started to listening to Cam after at least a five year hiatus. Fast forward three months and it’s not really going anywhere, due to a slew of ballads like this. It took me ten minutes to decide whether or not to post this track or “Down and Out”, one of Kanye’s filthiest..
Just a week ago, Dipset was announced as an act at Paid Dues.. I hope that is a sign of things to come for Rock the Bells in the Big Apple…
Happy 33rd, Aaliyah.. It’s unbelievable that it has been over 10 years since we lost you..
